Yachay Tech Student wins Huawei contest

Maria Rosa Preciado won a trip to Huawei Base Station in China

Maria Rosa Preciado, Yachay Tech student, won the opportunity to visit the Huawei headquarters in China through a technological innovation contest and learn about their communication technologies. This contest was part of the social responsibility program “Seeds for the future” hosted by the IT company and opened for several Ecuadorian universities. Huawei is right now one of the biggest telecommunication companies around the world.

Maria Rosa is part of the School of Physical Sciences and Nanotechnology and is currently on her 7th semester at Yachay Tech. She went through a small selection process carried out by the company. All participants were requested to send a motivation letter, stating why and how the experience would benefit their universities. Maria Rosa was one of the ten students selected from three different universities: Escuela Politécnica del Ejército, Universidad San Francisco de Quito, and Yachay Tech.

The program Seeds for the Future has already benefited around 35 Ecuadorian university students and around 30,000 students worldwide with several educational session including Chinese language and culture and communication technologies. Currently, Huawei provides technological services to 35 of the biggest telecommunication companies around the world and invests 10% of their annual income on research and innovation.
