Mauricio Matabay Cargua

Biography

Mauricio, an Ecuadorian ESL/EFL Professor, received his Bachelor’s degree in English from Universidad Central del Ecuador in 2009. He received a scholarship sponsored by the Ecuadorian goverment to be part of the Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) training at Kansas State University, The USA, in 2012. He then received his Master’s degree in English Linguistics and Didactics from Universidad Central del Ecuador in 2015.

Mauricio received a scholarship sponsored by Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana to be part of the screenwriter training workshop since 2016 to 2020. He received recognition for his outstanding work as an educator at María Angélica Idrobo High school in 2018. He was selected as a Future Leader by The First International Summit "Shaping Horizons" at The University of Cambridge, England, in 2019. He started learning the Kichwa language in 2020. He received the international recognition “Premio Internacional Bio Juventud”, Mexico & Puerto Rico, in 2020 & 2021. Mauricio started his PhD. in Education at UNADE, Mexico-Spain in 2021. At the same time, he started his Master’s degree in Audiovisual Screenwriting at UNIR, Spain. He became a screenwriter in 2022. Mauricio and his Yachay Tech students got the second place at SFERA Experience Academic Competition at Tecnológico de Monterrey, México, in 2022.

His profesional experience includes: Founding Secretary of the Ecuadorian Student Association at Kansas State University (ESA AT KSU); Coordinator of the English-Spanish Pen Pal Project at Rock Creek High School, The USA; English Professor at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador; English and Science Teacher at Public and Private secondary and primary schools; Founding Advisor of the Speedcubing and Kichwa Club at Yachay Tech; Advisor of the Japanese Club at Yachay Tech; Teacher Trainer; Presenter.

Mauricio is currently the CEO of Andivisa Producciones, and he has been working at Universidad Yachay Tech since 2017.
