Cristina Salazar

Biography

After graduating from high-school, Cristina had the desire to improve her English skills so she traveled to the United Kingdom and studied English for nine months. During that period of time she found out that teaching was what she wanted to do. In 2009, she obtained her Bachelor degree in Applied Linguistics. She got a Diploma Superior in Communicative Skills of the English Language and obtained her Master’s Degree in University Education and Educational Management. In 2013, she was part of the Go-Teacher program and attended a training program in Kansas State University for nine months as she obtained a scholarship sponsored by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education. In 2015 she got a second scholarship funded by the Government of India and attended a course on Curriculum Design and Instructional Material Development in Chennai-India.  

Her background includes teaching experience in a Bilingual School – CEBI in Ambato. She also worked for the Ministry of Education as an English teacher in a Public school. She taught English Language at Indoamerica University, and also worked in the tourism sector in the province where I come from – Tungurahua.  

Having lived in three English speaking countries created an opportunity for her to improve her learning of both: English language and culture. In August 2016, she applied for a teaching position at Yachay and a couple of weeks later I received an offer letter to become part of the English Language Program Faculty; so, here she is, enjoying this opportunity and working enthusiastically in order to make a positive contribution to Yachay Tech University.   

Summary of Interests

She always believed that teaching is the best way of learning so that her main interest is to improve her teaching through the development of innovative techniques to motivate her students and help them gain confidence when using a second language. She also likes listening to music (especially from the 80s).
