Filipe Areias, Ph.D.

Biography

Filipe Areias obtained a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Coimbra (UC, Portugal) in 1996. He got a M.Sc. in the Department of Pharmacognosy of Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Oporto (UP, Portugal) in 1999. In 2006 he finished his Ph.D., focused on the synthesis of heterocyclic nitrogen compounds with biological activity in the Chemical and Biological Centres of  University of Minho (UM, Portugal). After, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the BioFarma Group of Industrial Pharmacy Institute of University of Santiago de Compostela (USC, Spain) (2006 – 2008) and in the Chemical Centre of the University of Minho (2008 – 2012). From 2012 to 2014, he worked as senior scientist in the BioFarma Research Group of University of Santiago de Compostela, in the areas of Medicinal Chemistry and Neuropharmacology. At present, he is a Lecturer and Researcher at YachayTech University, Ecuador.

Summary of Interests

His research interest is in the area of synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry.

Medicinal plants and toxic animals of Ecuador: Chemical, pharmacologic and toxicologic studies.
