Micaela Navarrete

Short Bio

Micaela Navarrete-Mier obtained a bachelor degree in Agricultural engineer at Escuela Politécnica del Ejército- ESPE, Ecuador, and a Master in Bioengineering: agronomic sciences at Université Catholique de Louvain, Louvain la Neuve, Belgium.

During their undergraduate studies she worked at INIAP, with a native potato variety called “Yana Shungo” (Solanum) to develop new techniques for production. In Belgium, she worked with corn (Zea mays) and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on plants under stress conditions. Since March 2017, Micaela has been working for the project “Explaining the diversity and phylogeny of Oxalis tuberosa, an iconic Andean tuber: relationships among genetic, anthropological and environmental data”, as Research Associate. She has been responsible for the collection of oca accessions in the Andes of Ecuador, and for the agricultural management of the ex situ collection of ocas at Yachay Botanic Garden.
