The YT Animal Welfare Club is a group of students, faculty, and administrative staff from our university community working to spread the message that animals matter. To make this possible, we carry out various activities mainly focused on education projects and activism on Animal Welfare, directed to the Yachay Tech and Urcuquí communities.

Some of our activities are:

– Talks on animal welfare and veganism

– Pet spaying and neutering campaigns

– Rescue of stray dogs

– Managing pet adoptions

– Carrying out various activities for fundraising such as sale of bracelets and shirts, organizing parties and receiving donations.

The Yachay Environmental Awareness Club was born with the vision of working for a solution to the problem of the lack of recycling on the university campus. The members of the club work to improve waste management through plans and activities that involve all the inhabitants and visitors of the City of Knowledge. One of our most important achievements is the recycling campaign “Getting Greener” that has collected and hopes to continue collecting the largest amount of reusable material generated on campus, as well as generating a culture of recycling inside and outside the houses. Our future plans include preparing agreements with business premises that encourage students to use tote bags instead of plastic bags when shopping, a new and improved recycling campaign, readjusting the existing garbage bins on campus, and changing from disposable containers to reusable containers.

This discipline is a mixture of different kinds of martial arts and combat modes, such as boxing, karate-do, kung-fu, and taekwondo. Kickboxing is a sport that combines kicks and punches, where the body is in an intimate relationship with the mind. Kickboxing helps students to burn calories and define muscles, it also increases cardiopulmonary strength. Kickboxing is a regulated sport, where you learn an effective self-defense technique.

The club aims to encourage the learning and practicing of chess by providing a space for students who have no experience in chess to be guided by experienced players and tutors. To allow the constant practice of experienced players with the aim of creating a team of chess players who can participate in championships on behalf of the university. To assemble the Yachay Tech community (administrative staff, faculty, and students) around the practice of chess. There are friendly tournaments and a general competitive tournament open every semester, we have already successfully hosted 2 tournaments.

The club will provide:

– Chess teaching and learning on campus.

– Practicing and studying of chess theory through books and multimedia.

– Multiple short tournaments by categories.

– Organization of a chess team who can represent the university.

We have 10 chess boards and four clocks. We want to have a permanent physical space to practice chess.

Yachay Tech’s bodybuilding club promotes a healthy lifestyle and proper use of spare time for the entire university community through the practice of bodybuilding and its modalities. The practice of this sport consists of using weights to trigger a series of adaptive changes in our body. Tennis is a sports discipline that demands great physical and mental effort as it requires careful work on speed and agility, strength, flexibility, and coordination. The possible modalities are: singles and doubles. The objective of the Trekking Club is to promote the integration of students by going to places that provide benefits for their physical and mental health while having the opportunity to know nature. The club organizes challenges for students and faculty. The challenge is to get to know and conquer a place you’ve always wanted to go to. We have been doing it for 4 semesters now and we have achieved 8 challenges, for instance: camping at Cubilche Lagoon; climbing the Imbabura volcano, climbing the Fuya Fuya Mountain where the Mojanda Lakes are located; climbing the Cayambe glaciers at 4850 MAMSL on two occasions, and camping at the Quilotoa Lake for the first anniversary of the club.

Additionally, the club gives students and faculty the opportunity to fulfill the dream of flying. For this, each semester we raffle two paragliding jumps so they can marvel at nature from the sky. The province of Imbabura has beautiful places to visit; the next challenges will lead us to know several of them. Like you, we know that life is meant to be explored and enjoyed. For this, we need to go to the mountains; that’s a great way to enjoy life.

If anyone wants to be part of the club, they just need to sign up for the next challenge so they can discover what we do. There are many challenges in life and we are not sure if we’ll conquer  them all, but in the Trekking Club we are convinced we’ll conquer happiness. What do we look for? Living, maybe?

The Yachay Tech Dance Club is a space to experience different rhythms and body movements, favoring the joint creation of multiple choreographies, learning new skills, developing awareness and body management to obtain greater presence and security in all areas of life. It links the interests and potential of the students with the purpose of discovering and exploring the conceptual and practical foundations of each musical rhythm.

The Club was established and consolidated in early 2015. Since then, its members have created and developed 17 choreographies in different rhythms, such as bachata, k-pop, cumbia, mapalé, tango, salsa, hip hop, contemporary, folklore and bomba. They have organized different workshops with highly trained instructors. They have also performed several times in Urcuquí at different events. Finally, each semester, the club performs at different artistic events at Yachay Tech and at the cultural and artistic event “Conjugaciones”, in which they show the choreographies worked throughout the semester.

The main purpose of the German Club is to link the YT community with the culture of German-speaking countries as well as to teach different levels of that language. German club participants learn about German culture and traditions. Learning a new foreign language represents an advantage for possible scholarships and future jobs. Club members must be committed to supporting the proposed activities in different ways. The cultural and artistic activities are open to the entire community.

A communication will be sent before the reservation of each activity. Regarding the language classes, at the beginning of each semester, the students of each level decide an appropriate schedule in which other interested parties can be included.

The Yachay Tech International Club (iClub) seeks to provide a national and international vision to the university community.
