Thibault Terencio, Ph.D.

Biografía

Thibault Terencio is a young scientist, mainly theoretical chemist but always keeping in touch with experimental chemistry.

He obtained his B.Sc of molecular chemistry and his master in theoretical chemistry and physics in 2010 at the university Paul-Sabatier in France which gave birth to his first scientific article about magnetism, using both post-HF methods and fortran coding. He then prepared his PhD at Ecole Nationale Superieure de Chimie de Montpellier (ENSCM) in France where he used different methods, both theoretical (classical/quantum) and experimental (spectroscopic among others), in order to understand the adsorption of different Volatile Organic Compounds inside Metal Organic Framework structures and presented it in 2013. During this time, he was also involved in post-graduate teaching of computational chemistry and informatics. He then moved to Charles University in Prague, from 2015 to 2017, to do a post-doctoral fellowship about the study of reaction mechanisms involving different metals, mass spectrometry and catalysis in general.

In 2017, he moved to Ecuador and joined Yachay Tech University in December of the same year. Since then, he has been teaching different courses such as introduction to computational chemistry or Informatics applied to Chemistry, but also basic Chemistry I and Chemistry II courses. He is particularly happy that his undergraduate students know/can use theoretical chemistry programs, and that some of them could incorporate a European master in this field.  While keeping his interests in excited states, catalysis and materials, he also opened up his field of study to more biological systems, photo-systems, nano-systems and geometrical models, collaborating not only with other chemists and physicists but also biologists and mathematicians. Following these lines, he directed and participated in different scientific projects, published different articles and directed several undergraduate thesis, ranging from the development of new methods to direct applications oriented towards society. With the help of his colleagues he also founded a research group of Catalysis Theory and Spectroscopy (CATS), inside the School of chemical sciences and engineering, where each member possess complementary areas of expertise. On a non-scientific note, he is also currently involved in the French club of the university with the students.

He is always up to new challenges and happy to discover new fields, believing in the benefits and interests that can arise from a wider view of science. In long term, he has the ambition to develop theoretical chemistry in Ecuador, and more particularly at Yachay Tech, hoping to convert it as one regional reference in this field.
