Hult Prize, a world-renowned competition which aims to create and launch the most compelling social business ideas and start-up enterprises that tackle grave issues faced by billions of people, has arrived in Ecuador for the first time. Each year, the foundation sets a challenge for college students around the world who compete to win $ 1 million USD as seed capital to implement the winning project. Now in Ecuador, the foundation selected nine universities to lead the competition in the country: Yachay Tech, Universidad San Francisco de Quito, UIDE, UDLA, the Central University of Ecuador, PUCE, FLACSO, ESPOCH and ESPOL .

Carlos Lopez, 4th semester student, competed among more than 15 students, finally being selected as the campus director of Yachay Tech due to his leadership experience. Now, his responsibility will be to conduct a preliminary competition at Yachay Tech where students submit innovative ideas for the Hult Prize 2017 challenge.

This year, the challenge is to restore the dignity and human rights of more than 10 million refugees worldwide. Carlos, as ambassador of the initiative at Yachay Tech, expects students to put science at the service of society. The selection process will take place internally in November, leading to the second phase of competition at the national level, and finally the competing in London, Dubai, Shanghai, San Francisco or Boston, where the final world-wide winner will be selected.
