A new semester begins with new teaching laboratories

The laboratories were designed and equipped by the Infrastructure Department of the University, new equipment will arrive during the year.

On January 16, 2018, Yachay Tech began a new academic term with the access to new teaching laboratories delivered by Yachay EP. Laboratories E2 and E3 have the necessary safety measures for their use and have significant infrastructure improvements, for example, they cover the research needs of students at higher levels, unlike the block of E1 laboratories, which were designed exclusively for teaching.

The building laboratories E2 and E3 has 2 laboratories for the School of Mathematics and Information Technology, the School of Biological Sciences and Engineering and the School of Chemical Sciences and Engineering. It also has 1 laboratory for the School of Geological Sciences and Engineering and the School of Physical Sciences and Nanotechnology.  Additionally, it also has adequate storage and ventilation systems for the use of reagents; electrical systems that allow preserving the equipment in good conditions and with supporting infrastructure for laboratories. The design of the entire building was made by the Infrastructure Department of the University.

These labs will begin to be used by students this semester. Research is essential for the learning process in Yachay Tech. During 2017, the University encouraged 150 students to get involved in faculty’s scientific research and to lead their own research projects.

More than 50 students participated in the teaching assistantship program, and about 110 students participated in 31 specific projects, through internal grants.

The laboratories will also have space for higher level research equipment, used by the faculty form the university. The equipment of biology, geology, and physics have the purpose of facilitating the research processes and the scientific production of the university projects.

In 2017, Yachay Tech University published more the 200 scientific articles in Scopus. In that year the University made 87 of those publications. With 88 faculty Ph.D. the publication rate per faculty is almost one scientific publication per year, a very good index in the Ecuadorian context. These publications were achieved through scientific collaboration with more than 140 national and foreign institutions.
