Eleven students from the University are part of the group of 14 Ecuadorians who will travel to The United Kingdom for the Shaping Horizons summit and action program.

Eleven students of Yachay Tech University are part of the young leaders who will attend the Shaping Horizons summit and international action program, organized by Cambridge University. The event aims to promote the role of youth in local and global changes in politics, academia and industry. Ten students were selected as future leaders and one student, Patricia Rengel, was appointed as an Ecuadorian youth ambassador. The participants, all from different semesters and majors, were chosen for their experience in management and leadership of projects with social benefit and scientific research.

The students who were selected as future leaders are: Josué Solórzano, Claudia Moncada, Renzo Caamaño, Luis Murillo, Sherald Noboa, Marjorie Zambonino, Lizbeth Zamora, Andrés Mena, Carla Brito and Gabriel Cofre. Patricia Rengel, Ecuador’s youth ambassador, promoted the call, so her colleagues can apply for the program. In addition, she joined the Future Leaders of the country to carry out activities to prepare for the summit. In this sense, participants from Ecuador organized the only official satellite event held in Latin America: a conference called Ikwadur, which is a small-scale copy of the Cambridge summit and action program. Yachay Tech students worked in collaboration with future leaders from Quito. Ecuador has 13 leaders in total. The event that was held in Ibarra had the purpose of promoting the fulfillment of the objectives of the summit and it was very successful.

The summit will take place between September 9 and 13, 2019. In the end, several international teams will present projects that could receive financing to be developed in Latin America and the United Kingdom. International teams are already working on projects aimed at solving problems framed in the 4 areas of the congress: Fourth Industrial Revolution, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence & Cybersecurity; Humans and Nature, Future of the Health System & Climate Change; Our Shared Future, Migration & Entrepreneurship and Leadership; Social Challenges, Evidence-Based Policies & Diversity and Inclusion.

For the team, the conference poses an interesting challenge and further proof of the ability of Yachay Tech students, since the other participants are generally doctoral students, masters or have international experience in the matters of the congress. In addition, they highlight the opportunity that Shaping Horizons will give them to contribute to the dialogue of bilateral perspectives on issues that have global impact nowadays, and to build changes in their communities.
