Yachay Tech students will be trained abroad

Several students of the institution will travel this summer to different countries in the world to continue their undergraduate training in science and engineering.

May 21, 2019

Students from Yachay Tech University are packing their bags and documents to travel abroad this summer to continue with their training and learning process. The United States, South Korea, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and Chile are some of the countries that will host Yachay Tech students. Most of these trips have been achieved by the academic merits of the students who, in many cases, have stood out among applicants from different countries and recognized educational institutions.

Yachay Tech students will carry out different activities such as dissertations, academic competitions, professional and pre-professional practices. These trips abroad will be sponsored by the host institutions. These opportunities are part of the internationalization strategy that Yachay Tech University conducts through its International Cooperation and Academic Exchanges Coordination.

Two students will attend the summer program of the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) in South Korea. The students are: Alexander Tipán, from the School of Chemical Sciences and Engineering and Anthony Ramos, from the School of Physical Sciences and Nanotechnology. This is one of the most competitive programs in the world and they had to present their GPA, a statement of interest and a research project to participate in it. Dalena León, a major from the School of Physical Sciences and Nanotechnology, went through a similar process but she will travel to D-GIST, a research center that belongs to GIST. Three more students will attend programs in South Korea: Gissella Pilliza and Ronny Velasteguí, from the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, who will visit the Dongseo University, and Victoria Suárez, from the School of Biological Sciences and Engineering, who will be the only Ecuadorian, in a group of 20 Latin American students, who will participate in the engineering summer program of the Chonnam National University.

Luis Zhinin, Rafael Valencia and Leonardo Cortez, from the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, will travel to Chile for an internship at Universidad Católica del Norte. Similarly, Evelyn Mollocana and Selena Tinoco, from the School of Biological Sciences and Engineering; Fernando Pesántez, from the School of Physical Sciences and Nanotechnology; and Carlos Brito and Francisco Quinga, from the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, will carry out pre-professional practices at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with whom Yachay Tech has signed an agreement.

Students Katherine García, from the School of Mathematical and Computational Science, Joselyn Benalcázar, Romina Bermeo and Esteban Lasso, from the School of Physical Sciences and Nanotechnology, will travel to Germany, to the University of Paderborn and the Free University of Berlin, respectively. Likewise, José Arcos will work in the Nano-Spectroscopy laboratory of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, in Brazil.

Likewise, students Angel Villacreces and Jonathan Salinas, from the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, will travel to Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, while Carla Borja will travel to Universidad de Alicante, both in Spain. The School of Physical Sciences and Nanotechnology will also have the participation of Genesis Mendoza and Juan David Alcivar who will travel to the National Institute for Subatomic Physics NIKHEF, of the Netherlands, and Carlos Cocha, who will do internships in CERN, Switzerland.

In the same way, three groups of students will travel through programs related to leadership, innovation and social entrepreneurship. The first is a group of 10 students who have been selected as young leaders for the Shaping Horizons Summit, organized by the University of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom. The second is the group that created the INNOMAPS project, who will travel to the Hult Prize Accelerator in the United Kingdom to compete in the semi-final of the contest. The last group is formed by two students who were accepted in the TrepCamp 2019 program on international entrepreneurship, at the University of San Diego, United States.

Finally, Eva Andrade, Ariana Rivera, Andrea Tonato and Cristhian Salas, all from the School of Earth Sciences Energy and Environment, will carry out programs in different universities and research centers in Mexico and the United States. Eva and Andrea will travel to Mexico, to the Center of Geosciences of the UNAM-Querétaro and the University of Colima respectively. Ariana and Cristhian will travel to the United States to work at Montana Tech and the University of California, respectively. Dustin Carrión, from the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, will also travel to Mexico for a research stay at the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics, and Electronics.

The students who will travel abroad are the following:
