Yachay Tech opens Community Engagement Programs

The Academic Department opens leveling courses to take the Ser Bachiller exam to students from Urcuquí and Imbabura Province.

“I hope you have many dreams, and great dreams to be leaders in this country, local leaders or world representatives, it is our joint work to make those dreams come true”. With those words Patricio Ponce, Chancellor of Yachay Tech University, officially made the opening of one of the community engagement programs of the University.  During October 2017, the Academic Department, lead by Dr. Juan Aguas, inaugurated three academic linkage programs related to the students training for the Ser Bachiller exam.

Two of the programs benefit the community of Urcuquí and its surroundings, while one of them benefits all the students of the province of Imbabura who, in the last edition of the exam, did not enter to any university. The programs receive the support of Paúl Mejía, from the Academic Department, faculty from the School of Mathematical Sciences and Information Technology and Edison Casanova, Director of Registrar`s Department.

The two programs extended to areas near the Urcuquí canton are under the leadership of Paúl Mejía. Its goal is to allow high school seniors from the Sumak Yachanna Wasi schools in Imantag, and Unidad Educativa Urcuquí from Urcuquí, to have better opportunities in the entrance exam to higher education. This program has been in effect for around three years and has proven excellent results.

The third program will have its first edition in October 30, 2017. Dr. Juan Aguas in collaboration with Senescyt is in charge of it. The program aims to help the students from Imbabura who, despite having taken the Ser Bachiller exam, did not get any places at the universities they requested. With this program Senescyt seeks to improve and expand access to higher education for all students in the country.
